On a last-minute whim we headed out to the coast for Labor Day. I was so excited! I haven't been to the Oregon coast yet. I've been to the East-coast beaches of North Carolina, the Gulf-coast beaches of Alabama and Florida, West-coast beaches of Malibu and Humboldt California, but never to the Pacific Northwest beaches. But now I have!
We went to Seaside, OR and Astoria, OR. We played in the sand a little. Got our feet wet and cruised back home.
Here's some pictures from our trip.
There was a rusty old shipwreck.

All my life I've been trying really hard to make friends with them, but it just never works out.
They move so fast and climb so high in the trees that I can't even get close to them.
Here is music video that Sarah and Jason made of me chasing squirrels. See how excited they make me?!?
One time, I lived in a house in Alabama that had hundred-year-old oak trees all around it.
In the Fall, it rained acorns. I would sit on my screen porch and watch the squirrels run around gathering nuts for the winter.
Sometimes I would break out of the porch (bad doggie, I know, but I couldn't resist) and try to catch one of those furry fellas, but they were so much faster than me.
I would wait and wait at the bottom of the tree for them to come down, but they would tease me and jump from tree to tree right above my head. Gosh that made me so crazy!!
I wagged my tail, just like they did, until it was almost bald underneath!
Sometimes I even dream about catching squirrels!
Now, at my house in Oregon, there are a lot of squirrels. I'm still trying to make friends with them, but I'm not having any luck!
I just wanna play with them. Maybe a little chasin' and then some snugglin'.
But I just can't get no...satisfaction (or squirrels).
I hope you catch whatever you dream about!

I've been on tons of car rides. I love being the lookout dog!
My friend Trill came over and we played in the yard. Isn't he handsome?
Then I got a professional haircut, not a mutt cut like last time.
Here is a before picture.
And here is an after picture.
I can actually see again! The hair was so long, it was curling into my mouth and choking me and also hanging in front of my eyes. This is much better.
They trimmed my ears up pretty good. Now they look like radar detectors.
The weather has been getting nicer here in Portland, so we have been sitting outside a lot more.
I like the sun, but sometimes it burns my sensitive skin so I try to stay at least partially covered.
Here I am hiding under Sarah's chair. I don't want to get wrinkles from the sun! I have to be careful of these things now that I'm up there in double digits.
We also had central A/C installed. It was a pretty big production.
I'm so happy because it's not healthy for me to get really hot in the house while no one is home during the day.
Our landlord is so nice t0 us. He even planted a maple tree that he grew himself in our backyard.
I can't wait for it to get big enough to have squirrels in it. We named it Mabel the maple tree.
Sheesh, that's a lot of stuff to tell about. I think it's time for a nap in one of my favorite napping spots -- JB's office/music room.
I love all my cushions.
See you again soon and don't be a stranger!

I REALLY liked the birdies and wished I could've have taken one of those home to play with, but they thought I might be too ruff with it. They were probably right. So instead of a birdie, I got this great ball.
I had a purple one just like it for the last 3 YEARS! I have had so many great times with it, but now it's all chewed up and kind of nasty and the rope comes out.
But this new red one makes me CRAZY!
I LOVE to lick it and slobber all over it!
I played with the ball SO much, Sarah and Jason had to put it up until I could get control of myself.
So I just chilled out on the porch and dreamed about my ball and playing with it MORE the next day.
Then for my birthday dinner, they had sushi and I had EDAMAME.
I LOVE edamame (the beans not the husks). Soybeans are really good for doggies as long as they don't have any seasoning on them (the internet told me so). Look at me catch them in the air!
This is the ONLY trick that I do (like I've said before, I'm no circus dog). But Sarah and Jason think it is so funny that they'll give me extra treats if I catch them in the air, so I humor them.
We ended the weekend with Jason playing his guitar and singing birthday songs to me in the sunshine.
I couldn't have asked for a better birthday!
All in all, I had a BALL!

We are planning a big party for him this weekend including extra treats, lots of playing ball, and maybe some other special surprises. Maybe we'll even take him to PetSmart and let him pick out his own gift. I have a hunch it'll be a HIPPO!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLANCY!!
WE LOVE YOU!!

Yesterday we went to a St. Patrick's Day dog festival at the City Park. It was so much fun! Here are some pictures.
There was an agility course but I didn't do it. I don't really like being told what to do, it's not like I'm a circus dog or something.
I met a lot of doggie friends.
But this guy was my favorite.
I LOVE big dogs.
I really had to extend myself to get to know him better ;-)
Then we went home and I took a nap and dreamed about all the new smells I smelled today.
I was one pooped pooch! Thanks for taking me, Sarah and JB! I had a great time.

It was great to hear from you both. I'm glad you're having a nice mild winter in Arkansas. We moved to Portland just in time for winter and boy, has it been cold! We had the "Arctic Blast 2008" right around Christmas.
I had fun playing in the snow. But then it just kept snowing and snowing. It got so bad, my tummy would touch the snow and I COULDN'T SEE MY FEET! I still went out looking for squirrels everyday --I think they were hibernating.
Thank goodness I had my fleece coat with flannel lining.
Sarah got cabin fever and made some booties out of a fleece bathrobe and a vinyl makeup bag.
It was a good idea, but they were a flop.
Other than the super-duper cold weather, this winter has been pretty uneventful. I spent a lot of time looking out of windows.
And I also did a lot of sleeping on the futon with my hippos. Grammie got me a little bitty gray one when they were visiting in January. Thanks Grammie! I love hippos.
I am really excited about Spring and Summer in Portland. I got a small taste of sunlight the other day and it was so sweet!
Please stay in touch. I love email. You can send a message to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
May the sun always shine on your nose and the cold snow never freeze your toes.

Dear Cousin Clancy,
We hope all is well with you in the Pacific Northwest. Annie and I have been having a very nice winter here in Arkansas.
Poppa took us to the country club golf course a few times and it was very much fun. (Annie is in the blue shirt and I'm in the red shirt.)
We got to ride in the golf cart some but then we just ran for most of the time. We only did the front 9 because we got tired real quick.
Other than that, we have been spending a lot of time looking out windows.
We have also done a lot of sleeping on the furniture.
We hope that your winter has been just a fun and relaxing as ours. You can see more pictures of how we fill our days on Flickr here.
We love you and miss you very much,
Amos and Annie (The Bostons)
May your cushions always be soft and your window blinds always be open.
I was so glad to hear from them. I love them a lot. I will reply to them soon and I will share that with you guys too. (I'll have to send them a link to my blog so they can see what I am doing :-)

One time, Sarah cut my hair with scissors and my Poppa Jim said it looked like she put my schnoz in a pencil sharpener. That's okay.
One time, we paid a lady to cut my hair, and she just kept shaving and shaving and shaving. I tried to tell her to STOP, but I can't talk, ya know. She cut it so short you could see the liver spots on the top of my head. We didn't even know I had liver spots! I had to wear a hat for a month. That's okay.
We've been in these kinds of situations before, and I'm the kinda doggie that will take one for the team, so I didn't put up a fight. I just gave into the MUTT CUT. Cause it's OKAY!
Here's some pictures of JB cuttin my hair in the garage.
I love it when JB takes charge. He has strong hands -- I feel safe with him.
This is what I looked like before they started clipping. My face was SO furry!
They said I was a really good doggie. They even gave me treats so I wouldn't jump off the table (I wouldn't have really jumped, I just wanted some snausages ;-)
Then we put all the clippings in the compost heap so the birdies and squirrels (I love squirrels, did I mention that?) could use it to make nests.
It kinda looks like me out there hiding under the tree, huh? But it's not. I was inside getting a BATH!! That's the worst part. I immediately rolled around on the carpet like a crazy dog to get that wet stuff off of me.
I have to admit, for his first MUTT CUT, JB did a pretty good job.
At least I can see again. My eyebrows were so long I looked like Lloyd Bridges (or at least that's what JB told me, I don't know who Lloyd Bridges is, I'm a dog!).
Well, at least my hippos still love me no matter what I look like. I think I look like a possum, maybe now I can infiltrate their lair. (Oh wait, did I say that out loud? Don't tell the possums, k?)
